Exercise: Act out the dialogue in Hebrew while looking at the English
text. Use other names than in the original dialogue when acting out.

Story – Goldfish

Goldfish: Hello, who are you?
Hadas: I’m Hadas. And you?
Goldfish: I’m a goldfish.

Hadas: What, a real goldfish?

Goldfish: Yes, a real goldfish. You can ask (for) three things. What will you ask (for)?
Hadas: First thing – I wish I won’t be late for work. I’m always late.
Goldfish: No problem! As of tomorrow morning, you won’t be late for work. You’ll

always arrive on time.
Hadas: Excellent, excellent! Second thing – I wish my husband would cook me dinner.

He can’t [doesn’t know to] cook, and I always cook.

Goldfish: No problem. Tonight [this evening], your husband will cook you a meal and
you won’t cook. What else?

Hadas: One more thing, right? Ahm… oh, I know! I wish that the Beatles will play in
Israel!

Goldfish: But John Lennon is dead. How will the Beatles play without John Lennon?
Hadas: I don’t know. You’re a goldfish, you can do anything, no?
Goldfish: Not so much… I’m just a novice fish. Ask for something else, okay?
Hadas: Fine… I wish that my husband will organize the house!
Goldfish: Also cook and also organize? Hadas, I’m a goldfish, not the Messiah. Ask for

something realistic, okay?
Hadas: Okay. I wish that my husband’s mom won’t call every hour.
Goldfish: No, no… I’m afraid of your husband’s mom. Ask for something else.
Hadas: Okay… I wish that my friends and I will tour in New Zealand.
Goldfish: Tour in New Zealand? But you don’t have money. How will you pay for the

trip?
Hadas: I don’t know how we’ll pay (for it). That’s your problem, not mine. You’re a

goldfish, can’t you give me money?

Goldfish: Not really. You [understand] see, my manager is in financial problems. Ask for
something small and cheap.

Hadas: Something small and cheap? And I’ll really get it?

Goldfish: Yes, you will get (it). Really.
