What is in Our Water?
If there weren’t desalination plants in Israel, this summer we surely
wouldn’t have what to drink, but with all the good things they bring, there
is also one problem. A new study by Bar-Ilan University found that the
chance of someone who drinks desalinated water to be sick with heart
diseases is bigger, because there is no magnesium in this water. In Israel
there are five desalination plants – in Ashkelon, Ashdod, Palmachim,
Soreq and Hadera. Anyone who lives close to desalination plants drinks
only desalinated water. Already a few years ago [the people] at the
Ministry of Education wanted to add magnesium to the desalinated water,
but because of politics, it didn’t happen. Perhaps the new study will cause
things to change.
