To a Hundred and Twenty
For Julia Hawkins, age is probably just a number on the ID card. At the
age of a hundred and three she competed this week at the National
Senior Games, at the fifty and hundred meter sprints. She finished first
in both. She was born in nineteen sixteen in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
where she spent most of her life as well. Julia always had a lot of
affection for sports. For many years she rode a bicycle and even
competed at mountain biking. When she reached the age of one
hundred she remained the last one in (her) riding group. (Her) children
begged that she finds another hobby, and she discovered running. In
twenty seventeen, at the of a hundred and one, she broke the record of
a hundred meter run for the ages of a hundred and up, and if you
wondered what the secret is – Julia makes sure to maintain a healthy
lifestyle. Has never smoked, doesn’t drink either. Lately (her) vision
became a bit blurry but she is still able to read well. Thirteen thousand
seven hundred and twelve runners registered for the National Games
held in New Mexico this week, Julia is the oldest one, and someone try
and stop her.
