At Bialik Square stands one of the beautiful houses of Tel-Aviv:
Beit-Ha'ir.
They build this building in 1924, and it is supposed to be a
hotel. At that time, there are financial problems in Israel and in
the world, and because of this they do not open the hotel. At the
same time, Tel-Aviv's city hall is in the city's water tower. The
first mayor of Tel-Aviv, Meir Dizengoff, and his friends at the
municipality want to build a bigger city hall in a better place, so
they rent the hotel and the new city hall moves there.
This building is city hall for many years, but in 1965 the
municipality moves to the new building at Rabin Square.
The old people in Tel-Aviv remember how this place was once
the center of Tel-Aviv, and many people used to arrive there
every day.
Since 1971 until the nineties, the building was a museum of the
history of the city of Tel-Aviv.
At the beginning of the 2000's, the building was shut down.
In honor of the city's one hundred anniversary celebrations, Tel-
Aviv municipality decides to renovate the building.
Today Beit-Ha'ir is open to everyone and many residents and
tourists come to the place in order to learn about Tel-Aviv since
its early days in 1909 until this very day.
