The New Cameras
The data speak for itself: the mobile traffic cameras were stationed on
route one, (from) Jerusalem (to) Tel Aviv, on Sunday this week. After just
four days, a status emerges that already points to a change. The mobile
traffic cameras are made to enforce several types of violations; first and
foremost the one that became the leading cause of lethal accidents –
talking and messing with the mobile phone. On highways these cameras
are placed on the separation rail between driving lanes, at a low height that
enables them to document actions the driver performs. So the operation
method is simple, efficient and fast. In an area where the cameras are
placed, an undercover police car takes its place and completes the
cameras’ work. Two traffic police officers, equipped with several tablets,
watch the footage transferred by the cameras in their sector in real-time.
Everything is done on that day, without delaying the driver and with no
delay to moving traffic. Up until now the cameras have produced about six
thousand tickets. Eighty cameras have been placed up until now, the
intention is already in the near future to spread at least a hundred more
mobile traffic cameras.
