The Blood Libel that was Prevented

At the Hurva synagogue in the old city in Jerusalem they used to do
Kiddush and Havdalah every Saturday. They cancelled the custom
because of what happened:
In Jerusalem lived one convert that hated the Jews very much.
Before Pesach he decided to accuse the Jews of blood libel. He knew
that every Friday there is a bottle of red wine in the Holy Ark. On
Saturday night he snuck into the synagogue and swapped the wine in
a bottle full of blood.
That night an old man appeared in the beadle’s dream and said to him:
“Get up! The synagogue is burning!” The beadle ran quickly to the
synagogue. He saw that there was no fire, but he entered the
synagogue to check that everything was ok. He also checked the Holy
Ark. He was glad to see that all the books were there. But when he
opened the wine bottle he smelled a terrible smell. The beadle
understood that someone put it there and so he swapped the bottle
back to a wine bottle.
On Saturday morning, during the Torah reading, the convert barged
into the synagogue with soldiers and the local ruler. The convert
approached the Holy Ark and took out the wine bottle. He shouted:
“Here! This is the blood the Jews are using!”
