Low Intermediate Level – Graffiti in Tel Aviv
The Kufsonim
Who are the Kufsonim? These are
the figures that Adi Sened paints.
He began painting them while he
was a student at Bezalel, and since
then you can find them everywhere
in Tel Aviv. Why do they call them
Kufsonim? Because they look like a
box [in Hebrew – KUFSA].
There are Kufsonim that are like figures from history and from popular
culture, such as Moshe Dayan, Santa Claus and more. In one of the
works there are Kufsonim of Adam and Eve, but not like in the Torah,
here, Adam is the one who gives Eve the apple and Eve has a knife -
what do you think she wants to do?
Usually, the Kufsonim are not alone, sometimes they are together and
sometimes with animals. Sometimes Sened paints the Kufsonim low on
the wall, and there is a reason. Sened wants children to meet them in
front of their eyes, because he knows that children often see things that
adults can't see.
