Research shows that working alongside our pets can have numerous benefits on our mental health, as many Harron Homes
employees have discovered throughout lockdown.
Sales Manager Helen Robinson shared some of the benefits she’s noticed with her pet Schichon Missy by her side at home.
“Missy has loved having all the family with her all day every day, and definitely benefited from a lot more fuss, love and walks. The children have also taken her to the local park much more regularly than before lockdown.
“She hasn’t been distracting at all, she’s very happy to sit peacefully by my desk in my study. She has been a comfort to all of us, including my colleagues as she regularly comes on our video conferencing meetings to say ‘Hello’ to the team and they all love her!
“It has been amazing how everyone has adapted to working from home and become so much more comfortable using technology and communicating in different ways. We are used to meeting remotely now and these good habits we have adapted will stand us in good stead for the future. I can see this continuing in some form even after the lockdown, benefitting both our colleagues and pets.”
To celebrate Bring Your Dog to Work Day in June, we made a donation to the charity All Dogs Matter and invited people to share photos of their faithful friends as they adapt to working from home during the pandemic.
Some of our favourites were Milo, Elvis and Serge, and The British Gift Company’s mascot, Toby, who were all gifted vouchers for HOWND, the ethical dog products company.
Jo Amit, HOWND event organiser, said “Bring Your Dog To Work Day celebrates the relationship we have with all animals – domestic and wild – and raising funds for animal welfare organisations that need our support more than ever this year.”

Helen & Missy’s top working from home benefits
Increased happiness - nothing brightens your day like that tail wagging at the sight of you.
Reduced stress - the perfect cure for a tough day, petting dogs is proven to have a calming effect.
Reduced loneliness - they may not be able to hold a conversation, but at a time when socialisation is limited all company makes a difference.
Peace of mind - no longer worrying about what your furry friend is getting up to during the day can be a weight off your mind.
More exercise - there’s no better incentive to getting those steps in than puppy eyes waiting for a lunchtime stroll.
Higher productivity - happy and unstressed employees are more productive, especially if their day isn’t disrupted by the need to rush home and check up on their pet.
Better care - it’s not just owners who benefit; your pup won’t spend the day pining for you and you’re more likely to notice any illness or behavioural changes sooner.
