It was truly a treat to finally go see Bryan Dean Trio.
What can beat a great dinner, awesome drinks, and
smooth blues sounds from BDT?
Bryan Dean performs vocals and guitars. Koko
Matsumoto is on bass and backing vocals. And my
friend Dani Ponce is on drums. Their sound is a solid
blues undertone, but each song is taken over on top by
jazz, rock, country, and a little funk.
The Monterey Court stage is easy on the
eyes. It boasts a covered outdoor stage, under
the mesquite trees and stars of Arizona. The
cool thing about the stage is that there's no
back wall. It’s all open air. I sat behind the
band/stage and had my dinner while they
played, availing myself of the bar that is
situated in the back of the stage.
BDT music was definitely soothing to the ear. After
folks finished with dinner, a gathering of people moved
to the front of the stage and began participating,
dancing, and singing along. I had some questions
regarding the band, so I messaged Koko (bassist) with
some simple questions, and she replied with chapter’s
worth of band info. It was too cute not to include.
Here’s my unintentional (raw) mini interview with Koko
Matsumoto of Bryan Dean Trio.
