Kiki Plesha: It’s great to catch up! It’s been a while since we worked together
on the show The One – Indie Music Battle on REELZ. Congrats on
consistently placing in the top 4 of the rankings! How was that experience?
Dana: Having our music video played on national television and continually
placing in the Top 3 was the coolest experience! The whole team worked hard
and played hard for that music video, so it gives a sense of accomplishment and
pride to have it acknowledged as a top indie video. Our friends, family and fans
supported the hell out of us. It’s a great feeling to know that the music you feel
passionate about making is something that people like to listen to and has a
positive effect.
Korey: It was fun staying up late to watch our video air on live TV and very
rewarding to see our friends and fans step up to the plate to get the job done.
Dana: What I thought was cool is that we got all of these people we knew, people
who are fans of our music from all over the country, to join forces every single
week. That’s a feat in itself!
KP: Let’s talk a bit about the history of Kerosene Drifters. Tell us about how
this band came to be and how you arrived at the name ‘Kerosene Drifters?’
Dana: We met while I was working at a foster care/adoption agency. Korey’s aunt
was my boss.
Korey: We all went out to lunch one day and got to talking about music. After a
few months, we started dating. It wasn’t until a year after that when we started
actually playing together, as we had already been a part of other bands. After a
couple of years, we started writing our own music. At that point, we wanted an
actual band name instead of calling ourselves ‘Korey n Dana.’ Since we liked the
initials KD, we spent many weeks debating on how to use those same initials
before we settled on Kerosene Drifters.
Dana: We were searching for a band name that described our sound and who we
were as artists, so we came up with ‘music with fire and soul,’ hence, Kerosene
Drifters.
