JB: I have had to re-release a lot of my back catalog because the distributor I’ve
been using for the past three years decided to close its doors. ‘The Universe
Hates Me’ is my actual newest release. Inconvenient and annoying though it
was, it was a good opportunity to refurbish my older work and make some new
mixes with the new knowledge I’ve learned of mixing, engineering, and
producing. That’s where that special edition of ‘Keep It Dark’ came from. There
was a silver lining in having to release the album again, as the remixes more
accurately reflect my original vision for these songs. I also found a place for three
songs that were recorded at the same time as the rest of the songs but couldn’t
fit them on the original release: ‘Break These Chains,’ ‘Mother of Exiles,’ and the
instrumental ‘Closing Medley.’ I wouldn’t normally put out so many releases in
such a short time, but I had to put everything back on Spotify after it disappeared.
TB: How do you feel you have grown as a musician and as a songwriter
since your first album was released three plus years ago?
JB: Since my music is self-produced, I have learned a lot about producing,
mixing, and engineering. I don’t have much difficulty making arrangements for
songs, as I can use my knack for composing instrumental music in that regard.
But I have learned a great deal about making good records and I’m still learning
even today about what drum, bass, or vocal sounds work for any given song. I
experiment with how I can make a track pop from the speakers and create a cool
vibe and dynamic experience for the listener. From a producing and sonic
standpoint, my music has come a long way since my first record.
TB: What is up next of Jackson D. Begley?
JB: I have 3 new songs I’m writing at the moment, so there will definitely be a
new EP coming out in a few months. I’m also in two other bands. I do rhythm
guitar and vocals in ASD Band and I play bass guitar and backup vocals in Luna
Moth. I also have a side-gig as an Elvis impersonator. And when ‘Robots &
Things’ is finished, I’ll also be releasing more music I wrote for that.

If you are in the Ontario area and see an Elvis impersonator, it might just be
Jackson D. Begley. Be on the lookout for his EP. You can follow him on social
media and even check out the website for the video game “Robots & Things”
using the links below. I want to thank Jackson for taking time to answer the
questions and I know I will be checking out the video game website myself.
