The Colorado live music scene came to a screeching halt March 16, 2020, when Governor
Jared Polis issued a closure of all restaurants, bars, casinos, and theaters, among other types
of businesses where large crowds gathered. Restaurants and bars that offered carry-out were
allowed to stay open, but the dining areas had to be shut down. The impact of this order was
felt immediately by the music venues in Colorado. Thus, stage lights went dark for live music
in public venues.
The future is uncertain for the musicians and the venues. No one knows when venues can re-
open to fans of live music. The musicians and some venues are doing what they can to not
only survive, but also remain in the minds of their patrons.
I spoke with the owners of two music venues located in Colorado to find out how Covid-19 is
impacting their livelihood and how they are coping during this pandemic.
