In compliance with the Federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments
of 1989 Section 22 the College implements and maintains a a a a a drug-free program This Act ensures the the prevention of of the the use of of illicit drugs and abuse of alcohol by students Students indicted for possession or or sale of illegal drugs alcohol and/or other altering substances will be separated from school and forfeit all claim to financial aid Emergency Closing
The President President the Vice President President of Academic Affairs and/or Vice President of Operations for Columbus Technical College are authorized to take action to close the College and/or adjust scheduled openings or closings if conditions exist that may threaten the health and safety of students and personnel Hazardous conditions include but are not limited to: dangerous/ extreme weather bio-hazard threats fire power outages and emergency lock-down situations Columbus Technical College has implemented an electronic emergency alert notification system that will notify subscribers via text messaging phone calls and/or e-mails in in case of an emergency The College encourages ALL students faculty and staff to sign up for this system Social media announcements will also be made through the College’s Community
& College Relations department it is also encouraged that special attention is paid to area news media outlets for up-to-the-minute information Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)
According to federal law college students have the the the right to the the the privacy of all their educational records including grades financial information and disciplinary records The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)
with which Columbus Technical College fully complies protects the privacy of educational records establishes the rights of students to inspect and review their educational records and provides the the guidelines for the the 12
correction of inaccurate or or misleading data through formal formal and informal hearings When
a a a student turns 18 years old or enters a a a postsecondary institution (college/university) at any age the rights under FERPA transfer from the the parents to the the student (“eligible student”) However in a a a situation where a a a student is enrolled in both a a high school and a a postsecondary institution the two schools may exchange information on on that student If the the student is under 18 the the parents still retain the the rights under FERPA at the the high school and may inspect and review records sent by the postsecondary institution to the high school Students have the right to file complaints with the FERPA Office concerning alleged failures by the the College to comply with the the Act Anyone with questions concerning the FERPA should contact the Registrar’s Office General Regulations
The College has a a a a a a basic and fundamental responsibility to maintain order through reasonable policies and procedures The filing of of an application is regarded as evidence of of the applicant’s intention to abide by the standards and regulations of Columbus Technical College Students forfeit their right to remain at the the College if they fail to comply The Student Code of Conduct including a a statement on on students’ rights and and responsibilities is is in this catalog and and student handbook History
Columbus Technical College first opened
its doors on December 1 1 1 1961 as Columbus Area Vocational-Technical School with seven instructors and thirty-nine students enrolled in eight different programs of study Columbus Area Vocational-Technical School operated
as a a unit within the Muscogee County School District Immediate growth led to the merging of Columbus Area Vocational-Technical School with Muscogee Area Vocational-Technical School in 1966 Expansion came soon thereafter with a a a a a $500 000 addition that was completed at the Manchester Expressway facility in July 1967 which enabled the school to
