3) Playing Single Notes



            Now you’re used to breathing through the harp (that’s just a short name for
            the harmonica), it’s time to start playing one note at a time. You do this by
            adjusting your mouth position – which is called your “embouchure” – so you
            are just focusing on the single hole that you want to play.



            It can be tough to isolate holes at first, so here’s a little trick. Start by playing
            two notes together, then try reducing your lips into a thinner embouchure – as
            if you are puckering up – until you can hear that you are playing a clear single
            note (see 3.1).


            This step can take some time, so just keep practising the exercises and you
            WILL get there.
