Chairman's Comment
Welcome to the April edition of “Something’s Brewing”. I really hope you are enjoying reading this
excellent magazine, and I am happy to announce that our Magazine has reached the finals for Best
Magazine (hard copy or online) in the National Association Awards.
This news proves our excellent team, trade partners and of course our valued members are supplying
interesting content and industry news each month to the editorial team lead by Amy Cutter.
Our members stories, news and opinions are what we need to continue our great work and I encourage
any BSA member to just drop us a note and get involved! I personally want to hear how our members
got started, the issues they have and continue to face and any tips for other business owners.
This month you will see a wide-ranging survey on “Re-opening” hot beverage outlets and I do hope you
find the data interesting.
You will see an article by Julie Barker. An excellent piece of industry research, and I would ask anyone
reading to get in touch directly with Julie to help complete the work.
As I write we will be through the first hurdle of the restrictions and looking forward to the second. I just
hope that the numbers are consistent with the Government expectations and that people continue to
be sensible for the longer haul ahead.
I am delighted to report that I wrote to the Rt.Hon Priti Patel last week around the new policing act and
immigration bill. I received the most delightful personally signed letter of reply from the house of
commons within a few days. Firstly, I was encouraged that my views had been responded to, and
secondly that the art of letter writing is not yet dead.
I am also able to report that I've had the privilege of chairing a forum for the F.E.A Beverage group. This
is part of our closer cooperation and sharing initiative. We are involved in a position of influence on new
coffee machine regulations being considered by H.M Government.
Please do feel free to contact me at any time on any relevant matter.
Stay sensible and stay safe,
Best Wishes,
Steve Slark
