Student Learning Achievement (SLA) Grades 10-12
As mentioned earlier, students in East Central Catholic Schools overall always perform well, and we hoped that the closure of schools to students in March 2020 would not adversely impact students' achievement, but due to COVDI-19 instruction and assessment restrictions implemented in the spring of 2020, ECACS and all school divisions in the province could not complete the second-semester Diploma and PAT assessments. The lack of assessment data for this reporting term obviously impacts the Division’s ability to report on the Diploma and PAT results for this period.
The Diploma results help the teachers identify strengths and weaknesses in instructional and assessment practices. The results provide a baseline to develop SMART goals for the upcoming school year. The Division will continue to utilize the Diploma results to inform practice when the publication of results become available again.
Teachers continue to adapt baseline assessment strategies to
ensure students develop the necessary grade and subject prerequisite knowledge. Teachers across the division are beginning
to flip their classroom lesson formats from face-to-face to a blended or
online model using such platforms as Canvas, Google Classroom, SeeSaw, and FlipGrid in preparation for scenario two or three instructional requirements. The Division will continue to explore and support professional development, instructional, and
assessment practices that best supports student learning regardless of the COVID-19 school re-entry scenarios.
