Student Achievement (Continued)
Overall, students in East Central Catholic Schools always perform well, and we hoped that the closure of schools to students in March 2020 would not adversely impact students' achievement as we return to normal in 2020-2021. Compounding the complexity of analyzing the student achievement results, the lack of Diploma and PAT results makes it difficult to address any trends over this period.
Teachers continue to implement baseline grade-level literacy ( Fountas & Pinnell) and numeracy (MIPI - Math Intervention/Programming Instrument) assessments to adapt and inform teaching practices given the gap in traditional learning due to the "Continued Learning From Home" initiative implemented in the spring.
Administrators report that students are adapting well to the pandemic's safe school requirements, and meaningful instruction is taking place in all schools across the division. Schools will need to continue to monitor student learning closely. A one size fits all approach will not work given the infinite number of variables that could impact the effectiveness of community specific delivery models.
Each school in the division will need to adapt to synchronous, asynchronous instruction or a combination of the two to best support each student's learning needs and technical capacity. Teachers will require professional development to adapt current face-to-face instructional practices that align with student and family needs in their respective communities.
Continuous Improvement
The school division’s Continuous Improvement Measure rating remained the same from last year (82.5%). This is the fifth year the Division has exceeded the Alberta average on this measure.
