the job I had with TIMET “detracted from a good family
life because of the frequent travel, which would only get
worse as I grew with the company.” Joe also pointed out
I would eventually “burn out” intellectually since I would
never experience the satisfaction of taking an engineering
task from beginning to fruition in my current job.
So, it ultimately turned out that it was my family who
made it clear that my job with TIMET should be
terminated and I should happily rejoin Joe at Douglas,
which is exactly what happened. But things did not go too
smoothly in this job change.
I did an interview with Douglas, got an acceptable pay
raise and position, and gave my TIMET management
30-day notice that I was leaving. My management was
not exactly happy about this since they did not have a
replacement available on short notice, but they were
understanding and wished me well in my new job. About
a week later one of my friends at Douglas called me to let
me know Douglas was going through a major layoff and
was also reducing the pay of all engineers by 10%.
