Many media personalities are very conversational. Dick Stratton, who did our Sports,
often continued talking, even as the Floor Director kept giving the cut signal in front of
him. I was the opposite. I was not very comfortable with making small talk. There had
to be a purpose in what I was saying.

For this reason, the Station Manager, Glen Marshal, assigned me to the Midday
program which opened with a panel and conversation. This was easy for me because I
could feed off each person’s remarks. In fact, on live TV that can be dangerous. But the
fact is people’s words can reveal too much about a person.
