Deborah was a co-anchor with me on Eyewitness News for 25 years. She was an
excellent role model on appearance, manners and an appreciation of the value of
ordinary people. And personally, she has been an exceptionally kind friend and an
anchor of stability whenever I have encountered difficult events in my life.

We were together for between 1981 and 2003, at which time Deborah retired from
broadcasting. The high point of our career was making a promotional film, “Snow
Dreaming” in Peaceful Valley, CO. For safety sake, each of us flew to Colorado on
separate flights. The pictures of our activities in the snow were a striking contrast to our
local viewers in sunny Florida.
I found it strange that looking at time in the future seems much more distant than
looking in the past. In many ways, it seemed that it was only a few years ago that my
middle age sons and daughter were young children. While I often think of being a child
with my grandparents, I see my world reversed as I have become a grandparent to my
children’s children. It has been an even greater blessing becoming a great-grandparent
with each new child opening my eyes to the vastness of God’s Wonderful World.
