The third time I stopped, the front wheels of the truck had gone off the runway, resting
on the edge of a 12 feet deep drainage ditch.
Afterwards, I learned that there was no damage to the truck, and our detachment
commander congratulated me for being so cautious in driving the truck. I thought I’d be
in trouble for having the truck partially extended over the ditch, but instead, Major
Wilson congratulated me for driving so cautiously, and when they towed the Chevy
back onto the pavement, there was no damage to the truck.
