 LMC GENERALCOMMUNITY 39
La Manga Cricket Club won the first match against Hackney CC and later in the day played its old rivals Madrid CC. On Sunday, finals day, the Club played home side Costa Blanca Crusaders CC in the semi-final. An exciting win in the last over saw us into the finals to once again play Hackney CC! Our young cricketers and our very own woman cricketer, Elspeth Fowler, who was awarded a half blue when playing for Cambridge University, rose to the challenge. Once again it came down to the last over. Ollie Jarvis (who was working for La Manga Club SLasan intern) hit a superb sixto see La Manga win itssecond T20 tournament of the year.
So, 2019 ended on a high note, with significant successes for the Club and a squad eager for more in 2020. Indeed La Manga CC wasback in action as early as January. The Club took part in a 5 day T10 tournament, which was organised by the new European Cricket Series, hosted by Sporting Alfas at Albir. Six teams took part in the competition. For La Manga CC it was a challenge to get players to commit to playing weekdays, plusto travel to asAlbir every day. However, being televised by Dream 11 and broadcast via the European Cricket network
made it an enjoyable experience. Plus, coming fourth out of six sides, participating was a satisfactory outcome. Due to the success of this tournament, a second T10 Tournament took place at the beginning of March. However, the Club struggled again to make the semi-finals. Nonetheless, prize money was won, and it was invaluable pre-season practice.
Sadly, as I write, like all sports, cricket is suffering during the coronavirus pandemic, and grounds and practice nets are empty. But, La Manga Cricket Club is ready to get started. Just as soon as the Club is given the go-ahead, it will be out "in the
middle"eagerformore winsand trophies.
