FerroDyn 30C
Product description
Iron is a mineral which is essential for the transport of oxygen into the
tissues. It is part of the hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Normally, our
diet contains an adequate amount of iron. Especially meat, fish, poultry,
eggs, rice, legumes and potatoes contain iron. However, there are great
differences concerning the recommended iron intake. The WHO advises a daily
intake of approximately 20 mg daily for women and 10 mg daily for men. Among
women, there are also important interindividual differences in the iron need
because of menstruation and also during pregnancy. The effects of an iron
deficiency are well-known, both on physical effort capacity and on cerebral
and cognitive development. Typical signs are (intellectual) fatigue,
paleness, shortage of breath, brittle hair or hair loss. The biological
availability of iron compounds is very important. There are two forms of
dietary iron: heme and nonheme. Heme iron has a high biodisponibility (of
meat and poultry), nonhem iron has a lower biodisponibility (cereals,
legumes, fruit, vegetables and
dairy products).. Heme iron is readily absorbed. FerroDyn contains iron (200%
of the recommended daily allowance, 28 mg Fe2+) as iron bisglycinate, a well
soluble form. Deliberately, no vitamin C was added, since the presence of
iron might turn the vitamin C pro-oxidative, instead of the normal anti-
oxidative effect of vitamin C. FerroDyn contains folic acid as well (200
mcg, 100% RDA). Folic acid supports blood formation and is important for
women during fertility.
