INCREDIBLE KIDS OF SAN DIEGO

                                            Wings Of Scars

                                                   By Kiriann Booth (13)

The kids say you're a demon. It only adds to your wings.
A sinner. The wings woven of the words that made you cry yourself to
Nothing can fix you. sleep before now help you soar above the clouds like a kite with
        They're wrong. an endless string.
You dance with the stars while others watch you in awe.
An angel's wings are made of gold and silver,
Lighting up the night as they soar above the sky— An angel's wings are delicate and soft,
Their life plated with good work and friends. created from the kindness and sympathy they got.
                                                               Yours—
Perfect little angels made out of the lies that they're alright. yours are made of hard work.
Even angels break. Yours are made of all the people you pushed away when they
Even God’s servants can be harmed while flying and fall to the yelled at a friend. Yours are made of all the bruises you hid
ground. to save your class mates despite the fact they didn't deserve
                                                               saving.
Your wings— Your wings will fly you higher than any angels ever could
Yours are made of cuts, scars, the nasty words the kids called because they are made of the things angels couldn't face.
        you.
They aren't bright, they are dull. You are strong and your wings will be shown against the moon
But, as you fly across the star dotted sky with nothing but your as greatness that despite what others say will never leave.
mind and yourself all the kids see is the silhouette of you and Don't tell them to stop with their words or hits.
your wings. Let them do it.
The feathers that dripped blood over the ground Let your wings grow wider and wider with everything you
        carved with “Loser.” endure.
“Short bus.” When the kids that made you strong see you
Yeah. their tiny wings struggling to hold them up,
        Those. you help them fly.
Nobody saw those. Show them the way to the moon so you can make your little
home there and live in peace.
        You're safe
when you're hidden by the shadow of the night.
But when day breaks and the light of the sun shines down on
        your wings
they will see only what they want.
None of the beauty will be understood because the blinding
rays will be too bright to see past.
All they will see is “different.”
Little do they know that slicing your wings won't make theirs
        stronger.
