Page 143 - Govind 70th Birthday Book
P. 143
Dear Govind a very happy birthday from Fiona and me.
Govind and I went up to Trinity College Cambridge at the same time and became good friends. He came to stay at our home in Sevenoaks, near Knole House, a vast pile once owned by Henry VIII, which is surrounded by a large park. It is said to contain 7 courtyards, 12 entrances, 52 staircases and 365 rooms - the legendary 'calendar' design. It is now in the hands of the Sackville-West family and Teresa Sackville-West was another Cambridge friend. She invited us to dinner and served a delicious pie with a dark meat in it. Govind very politely ate this, but afterwards confessed he assumed it was beef. I assured him it was venison, a rare treat sourced from the park's fallow deer.
