If one attended a large party over the weekend and stayed at a friend's house in the country, then one was supposed to sign out of the college. One did, of course, have the option of not being honest about it, but the idea was (officially) that if there were some kind of emergency, such as a fire, it was important to have the names of the students that were in residence, so I had signed out each time I was out of Cambridge, and therefore did not have the number of nights necessary. I saw photographs of the wedding and heard reports afterwards, and I really kicked myself for having been so honest! (Of course, I did have the option of not going to so many parties taking place outside of Cambridge!)
