 PRIMARY RESEARCH
               SPACE EVALUATION
Visiting the actual site of this project really helped to visualize how this restaurant’s concept would fit in the existing building. The site is currently split into a finished office space that is occupied by Independence Place and HDI Cats, and an adjacent unfinished space.
The finished side of the project site consists of a front entry area with a reception desk leading to a series of offices, a conference room, storage areas, and two unisex bathrooms. Both of the restrooms are ADA compliant. Each room, besides the restrooms, is carpeted. A drop down panel ceiling hangs over the entire space. There are no windows in the back of the building, but there are very large storefront
windows that cover the structure’s front façade. Besides some simple overhead lighting, these windows provided most of the light for the front rooms of the building.
The unfinished half of the space has no drywall, a cement floor, and an exposed ceiling. The lack of ceiling tiles in this section reveled that the building actually has a moderately tall ceiling which might help to create a more open feel in the restaurant design. There is a separate front entrance to this section that will most likely be locked or closed off for the final design.
Overall, the visit highlighted important details that will need to be addressed in the project ideation. .
