Increase in draft due to
list
1. Box-shaped vessels
The draft of a vessel is the depth of the lowest point below the waterline. When a box-shaped vessel is ¯oating upright on an even keel as in Figure 17.1(a) the draft is the same to port as to starboard. Let the draft be `d' and let the vessel's beam be `b'.

Now consider the same vessel when listed y degrees as shown in Figure 17.1(b). The depth of the lowest point or draft is now increased to `D' (XY).
