the Diamondback Terrapin Head Start Program with the
New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA) where
students help to raise a young diamondback terrapin,
temporarily housed in Mr. Harris’s classroom until
they can be released. Oceanography classes with
Mrs. Cardoza, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Roensch had an exciting
whale watch out of Plymouth. AP Physics students took
a field trip to the MIT reactor to see how modern physics
is used for experimentation in materials science
as well as what kind of precautions are instituted in
laboratory settings. The YESS club and advisor Alan
Harris held the second environmental fair, and also
attended a climate summit.

has been designed to incorporate both health and fitness
topics and will be a physical education requirement prior
to entering grade ten. Other courses ofered for ninth and
tenth grade are Team Sports & Activities, Strength &
Conditioning and Unified Physical Education. Courses for
grades eleven and twelve are Lifetime Activities, Strength
& Conditioning and Unified Physical Education.
Each year the high school physical education staf awards
a member of the graduating class with the excellence
in physical education award. The recipient for 2024
was Alex Lugo.
ATHLETICS:

In terms of assessment, student achievement on high
stakes exams continues to be a point of emphasis. While
we were unable to achieve our goal of having 80% of
biology students achieve meeting or exceeding
expectations on the biology MCAS, students did perform
slightly above the state in both the average score and the
number of students meeting or exceeding expectations.
57 AP science students achieved a qualifying score on
their exam in 2024, including 100% of AP Computer
Science Principles students and 81% of AP Chemistry
students. In addition, 7 of 31 AP Biology students
achieved a 5 on the exam, the highest score possible.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND ATHLETICS

The Physical Education/Health and Wellness
Department ofers five diferent courses for students to
The Middleborough Public Schools Interscholastic Athletic
Program maintains its membership in the Massachusetts
Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), South Shore
League (at the high school level) and Massasoit League at
the middle school level. The Cheerleaders maintain
membership in the Massachusetts Secondary Schools
Administrators Association. The Majorettes currently
perform locally at football games and parades only.
The Middleborough Public Schools interscholastic athletic
program had a successful year. The athletic programs
ofered at Middleborough High School and Nichols Middle
School had over 1,200 participants over the course of the
three competitive seasons. Additionally, the summer
program ofered multiple sports for elementary, middle
school and high school students and had over 750
