Season Highlights 2024 (continued)
Varsity Baseball qualified for the state tournament for
the 28th consecutive year and lost in the first round. Girls
tennis qualified for the state tournament and lost in the
first round. MHS hosted the Special Olympics Unified
Track & Field South Sectional Championship and won the
silver medal while advancing to the State Championship
Meet. The department had over 100 student-athlete
volunteers help manage the meet with 18 diferent
schools in attendance. Sotball qualified for the state
tournament and lost in the first round.
FUTURES ACADEMY:
The Futures Academy has changed in leaps and bounds
over the past year. The program has come together as a
whole in new ways focusing on ensuring a conducive
learning environment for a variety of diferent types of
learners. In Futures, the program provides an
environment that focuses on work-based learning skills
and ensures success post-graduation with most students
entering directly into the workforce or spending time at a
2-year college.
Fall 2024
The fall season was successful and ofered 23 teams in 11
diferent sports. Boys soccer ofered varsity and middle
school levels. Girls soccer ofered varsity, junior varsity
and middle school levels. Boys and girls cross country
ofered varsity only. Field hockey ofered varsity and
junior varsity. Volleyball ofered varsity, junior varsity and
freshman levels. Football ofered varsity and junior
varsity. Cheerleading ofered varsity competition and
varsity gameday. Majorettes ofered Varsity game day
only. Unified basketball ofered varsity only. Golf ofered
varsity and junior varsity.
Field hockey qualified for the state tournament and
won a preliminary round game and then lost in the
round of 32.
In the classroom, students are being challenged
academically with a focus on project-based learning
methods while providing instruction that focuses on life
skills necessary to navigate our ever-changing world.
Students have the opportunity to get work experience in
a variety of fields in our local Middleborough community
through our MassHire Youthworks program. Students
are paid to work and explore a work placement with
significant interest to them, which relates this back to
future planning and school-based skills. Students are
also now ofered culinary time each week in our
industrial kitchen to learn cooking skills/methods that
will serve them in their future life and careers.
Recently, Futures Academy has expanded its outreach to
the community by encompassing several volunteer
opportunities to better our community. Students go to
the local Mary K. Goode School to do read-aloud and
classroom activities with the younger students. Through
this mentorship program, both Futures Academy and
MKG students form meaningful relationships while
