INNOVATION/MANUFACTURING AT
MIDDLEBOROUGH HIGH SCHOOL:
The Innovation Lab (MiLAB) at MHS has become a very
popular place for students to learn, grow and engage in
the most cutting-edge technology and equipment.
Under the direction of Mr. Tony Chiuppi, the program has
provided a growing number of students a chance to delve
deeper into hands-on learning with the use of machinery
such as laser cutting, CNC machining, 3D printing, and
furniture making. The high school received the exciting
Innovation Pathway Grant in 2023 to engage students in
Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering. Students
who commit to being a part of the Innovation Career
Pathway will engage in a variety of technical and
advanced courses, complete a 100-hour internship with a
community career partner, and graduate with
credentials that will allow them to enter the workforce
with experiences and specialized training. Additionally,
in the fall of 2024, the MiLab launched two new technical
courses, Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing I and
Advanced Manufacturing II. The MiLAB also has
continued to engage with local organizations such as the
Rotary Club, Sachem Pride Alumni Foundation (SPAF)
and the Montgomery Home in an efort to build strong
community ties and create opportunities for students.
In addition, students use the SCOIR program as a
powerful research tool which helps students assess their
areas of interest, learning styles and to match them to
appropriate colleges and/or career options. College
Planning Workshops and career-focused programming
have been helpful to families as they guide their juniors
and seniors toward college.
In March of 2024, the department hosted the second
annual college and career fair at Middleborough High
School. Juniors will be attending the National College
Fair in Boston as well.
