ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
FIRE DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT
The Middleborough Fire Department is organized to provide for life and property
safety from the threat of fires, natural or man-made disasters, and medical
emergencies. This will be accomplished through planning, prevention, education,
incident mitigation and appropriate application of technology.
The Middleborough
Fire Department
dedicates itself to the
following values:
The fire department submitted grant
requests through FEMA’s Assistance to
Firefighter’s grant program this year and
was very successful. FEMA’s Safety and
Operations grant will allow the fire
department to (1) replace forestry gear for
all members (2) provide training for
oficers and (3) replace the department’s
Rapid Intervention packs that are designed
to help rescue a trapped or injured
firefighter. The department was also
awarded funds to purchase a new tanker
which will be custom built for the
department and placed in South Station.
Both grants together will save the town
over $ 975k in expenditures.
these members through March 2028. The
Department will begin covering the cost of
the members in April 2028. This is the largest
singular increase in department personnel
in the history of the department. This growth
in suppression personnel coupled with the
change to civilian dispatchers will allow our
South Station to be opened 24/7 sometime
in the spring of 2025.
Personnel: In 2024, the Fire Department
was awarded a FEMA SAFER grant that will
allow the town to hire six (6) firefighters at
zero payroll costs to the town for a period
of 36 months. The firefighters are
anticipated to complete the hiring process
in March 2025. FEMA will cover all
non-overtime personnel expenses for
Apparatus: A new engine for south station
was ordered in the fall and is anticipated to
arrive in Summer or spring of 2028. Thank
you to the Capital Planning Committee
(CPC) and to all that voted in favor of
allowing the department to purchase the
Engine. The department also purchased a
smaller quick attack pumper built on an F550
chassis. This unit will assist with our forestry
calls, medical responses and hopefully
reduce some wear and tear on our larger
full-size apparatus. This truck was 90%
funded by a FEMA AFG grant that the
department won in spring 2023.
