very day I leave my home and head off to
Emy place of work, St. Andrews Golf Club,
to teach or play a game with my friends. On
our beautiful twin islands of Trinidad & Tobago,
there are eight golf courses: five 18-hole courses
and three nine-hole courses. The total playing
membership is about 1,200 adults and 50 juniors.
At St. Andrews, I do three days of junior
golf (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays)
from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The attendance for
the three days is approximately 70 juniors. St.
Andrews Golf Club has generously offered all
the surrounding schools a chance to learn the
game of golf at no cost to the schools. At

present, we have about 93 students from one
school learning the game.

together have about 120 junior golfers in
training. So, with that in mind, there is a monthly
event at St. Andrews whereby all juniors are
invited to partake. There are 18-hole, 9-hole,
6-hole, 3-hole, and Drive, Chip and Putt
competitions. All juniors are given a medal, and
the first three earn trophies.
St. Andrews Golf Club is the only golf club
that offers free golf. In providing instruction to
the youths of Trinidad, our aim is not only golf,
but developing our youths as they are the future
of our country. They are at present 20 percent
of our today and 100 percent of our tomorrow.
