On a Tuesday morning in early June as Brid Mac was varnishing the benches in the

dressing rooms in Fr McNamara Park, Chairman Joe O’Donnell rang her to say that
Clare Camogie would need to do a fundraiser. In the background on the radio the

famous Scottish band "The Proclaimers" belted out over the air waves. As Brid
listened to Joe with " And I would walk 500 miles" belting out in the background she

suddenly stopped and said to herself she would actually walk 500 miles in aid of Clare
Camogie and told Joe she’d call him back that night with all the details for the
fundraiser.

An idea which was given to her jokingly by Mike Duggan turned to reality within 72
hours. A woman who would do anything for her love of Clare Camogie set about

planning her routes. The initial plan was to walk the distance from Fr. Mc Park to
Croke Park which was over 214km, but Brid being Brid said sure she'd have to walk
back, making it 430km!

She then planned on doing it in 29 days and by going to the 26 Camogie Clubs in
Clare, where young and old were there to join her on her journey in a massive show

of unity and strength in Clare Camogie before finally finishing at her second home Fr
McNamara Park.

Not alone did she do the 430km but she actually finished with 515km with thousands
more in her training. Having undertaken a walk myself recently, and knowing how the

body would start hurting everywhere, as well as the head playing games, unbelieva-
ble credit is due to Brid for her massive undertaking as well as keeping her day job
plus her PRO role going along the whole way. The PR campaign for “Clare Camogie to

Croker…& Back!!!” ran on social media throughout the walk was nothing short of
superb – AnnMarie McGann headed up the PR team of Dervilla Moloney, Mary

McMahon, Ciara Grogan and Chloe Morey - McGann you played a blinder!!!

All in Clare Camogie are extremely proud of Brid and extremely grateful for all she
does behind the scenes not only on a weekly basis but it’s on a daily basis with Brid.
