Palmer graduated from Parsons School of Design as an Illustra- tion major in 1983. His first com- missions were painting portraits of NYS Police Officers upon their retirement. His art back then
was dedicated to creating highly detailed renderings from photo- graphic references using acrylics and tiny sable brushes. In 2020 he discovered that he could apply his traditional training, which at times had felt constrictive, to large-for- mat abstract concepts.
