“These images are culled from two series, ‘Fins and Scales’ and ‘Ocean Ova,’ which addresses the current disasters taking place in the seas. Eggs (ova) are at the heart of re-populating
our ocean ecosystems struggling under rising temperatures, acidification, habitat degradation, over-harvesting, military operations; eutrophication is decimating fish, corals, sponges, urchins, and other sea creatures. As a marine biologist, I have departed from merely documentary scien- tific photography to more metaphorical representations of the ocean realms. I have created these images as metaphors for the urgent need for re-populating our damaged seas.”
