Systematic Sampling and Convenience Sampling

1. Determine whether each of the following surveys used a random or systematic
sampling.

Example
A survey was done to find the entire school students’ satisfaction level of the
school lunch. All the names of students were arranged in alphabetical order. From
the first 50 students, 1 person was randomly selected. Then, every 50th person
were asked to find the satisfaction level of the school lunch.

a. The names of all the students at the school were put into a pile and then a
few names were randomly selected to find the favorite singer of all the
students.

b. A survey was done to find the satisfaction level of all the newspaper readers.
All of the subscribers’ names were obtained. From the list, 1 person was
randomly selected among the first 100 people. Then, every 100th person was
asked about his or her satisfaction level of the newspaper.
