Math Story Making Rep-Tiles
Kate is sitting near a pond. She’s
staring at something in the water.
Ryan comes and asks her,
“What are you looking at?”
“Oh, there’s an amazing creature here. It was tiny a few days ago,
but now it’s very big. And just now, it divided into 4 small
creatures that look exactly the same! It’s incredible!”
Ryan nods his head.
“The Lazy Mathematician told me that the division of a figure into
equal shapes is called a rep-tile. It’s a word that is made by putting
repeat and tile together.”
“A rep-tile? That’s a funny word. Hmm the roof on that house
looks like a rep-tile, too.”
Ryan looks up at the roof.
“Hey, you’re right. Let’s look for other rep-tiles together.”
