D ifferent cultures celebrate holidays in different
ways. But one thing that we all have in
common is a desire to have fun. This is
especially true of Germany’s yearly festival,
Oktoberfest, which lasts for 16 days in Munich.
People gather in beer halls for beer and a lot of
German food. Sausages, roast pork, and
*sauerkraut are commonly served. Oktoberfest is the
largest beer festival in the world, attracting millions of people each year. (a)
Celebrated all over the world, Carnival is the biggest party in Brazil. (b)
Every February, the city of Rio de Janeiro puts on a grand parade full of
colorful cars decorated to drive through the streets in a festival. (c) Music is
everywhere, and everyone dances. (d) People eat, drink, dance, and forget
all the troubles they would have worried about.
