Unit 2 READING 1

T eenage obesity is a big problem in many
countries. (a) Kids are eating more
bad food than before, and they are
getting heavier. (b) Kids eat a lot of fast
food like hamburgers, fries, hot dogs,
pizza, fried chicken, etc. (c) Kids also love
snacks like ice cream, chocolate, soft
drinks, potato chips, cookies, pastry, and
candy. (d) These foods are making children
heavier. Also, many young people don’t exercise. They like to play video
games like Play Station, be in front of the computer, or watch TV. In the past,
children ate less bad food and exercised more than children today.

Children need guidance from teachers and parents. They need to learn to
eat better food and avoid snacks. Schools must also be responsible. The
vending machines in school sell a lot of junk food like candy and potato
chips. If there are no vending machines in schools, kids cannot eat junk
food. Schools and parents should push kids to play sports and exercise
more. Children need to be healthy.

English Usage
