Type Study Shape and Color Patterns

Double Patterns
Patterns are made up of different properties including: color, shape, direction, number, reversal, etc. A
pattern that uses two of these properties is called a double pattern.
When developing pattern recognition, students may be unable to separate the different properties. The
ability to observe one property amongst many must be developed through guidance.
Have the students think about the rules of each property to find the pattern by asking questions such as,
“How does the color change?” or “How do the shapes change?” This will help the students focus their
attention to one property.
