Early Childhood Development of Categorization
Toddlers: Students will take various objects, find difference and pair objects with similarities.
4 year olds: The range of categorization is widened to include such things as weight and material. Children will
also be able to group related things such as the mother and baby of the same animal or a toothbrush and toothpaste.
5 year olds: Objects are categorized using two properties such as color and shape. Reclassification is also
possible using different properties.
