“Different”
Jimmy asked me while I was working on this painting, “Why do you want to paint deer?” I thought to myself, “Well, besides the fact that I love all animals, I believe there is a story here.”
Look how different they are, and yet, they stand together in perfect harmony. Why is that? It is because they cannot be taught to hate. No one can teach the black one to hate
the white one, or the white one to hate the black one. No one can teach them to
hate anything different among themselves. Only humans do that. Wouldn’t it be wonderful, I thought. If we could learn from this image to live and let live. Then maybe
we would be able to see a glimpse of what it would be like to have heaven here on earth.
