Lessons Learned From Death And
 Covid-19

T hese are the biggest lessons that I learned from the death of my older brother, Dr. Frank Lockwood. Frank was a 52-year-old family practice doctor in Atlanta and in good health with no comorbidities. Nevertheless, he died from COVID-related
complications on August 5, 2020.
To learn my lessons, I had to experience Frank for more than 50 years. We were close in age but separated by almost everything else. I loved sports and hated school. Frank didn’t have an athletic bone in his body and excelled in the classroom. I liked hair metal bands. Frank preferred the Pointer Sisters. I had a quick temper and Frank was a master of reading and influencing people. In my (admittedly biased) recollection, Frank’s favorite childhood hobby was insulting and angering me – just for the fun of it. Suffice it to say that we did some horrific things to each other as kids that I doubt my parents ever knew about.
As we grew older, détente set in. I carried and nurtured the scars of our childhood, but I really think Frank moved on. More importantly, he tried. He welcomed my
