Strategic Planning for Law Firms
Why Should Law Firms Craft Strategic Plans?
Law firms should craft strategic plans because they focus a firm on what works for them, they define goals and tasks to achieve them, and they provide marching orders to the team to accomplish the firm’s objectives. They are, in effect, an architect’s blueprints, and they set in motion the creation of a skyscraper that overlooks its competitors. More importantly, they can prevent a firm from impulsive spending and wasted resources.
Strategic Planning is Acutely Important
There are two primary takeaways from this book. The first is that strategic planning is acutely important. If we accomplish nothing more, we want to make you a believer in and a disciple of strategic planning. (The second takeaway, of course, is how to strategically plan).
Strategic Planning Makes the Difference between Success and Failure
Alice asks the Cheshire Cat, “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” The Cat responds, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.” Alice says, “I don’t much care where.” The Cat says, “Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.” Without a plan, you may well arrive at a destination, but odds are it is not yours. A plan doesn’t always guarantee success, but a lack of one virtually guarantees failure. An effective plan is foundational for success and a firm that plans strategically enhances the brightness of its future.
