Strategic Planning for Law Firms
Delayed Strategic Planning May Be Too Late to Save a Firm
Sometimes it is too late to save the patient. Sometimes you have to call the time of death. If you look at the anatomy of dead firms, usually they waited too long and started too late to develop and implement a strategic plan. They say it’s never too late, but for law firms when it comes to waiting too long to pursue strategic planning, it can be. Sometimes the clients are already gone. Sometimes the fissures are too deep. Often, those who matter the most such as associates
and rising partners have departed. Merger with another firm is not an option and laterals cannot save the firm. Sometimes all that’s left to do is turn the lights off. If you’re going to pursue strategic planning, don’t wait too long.
