A TRUE CLASSIC MR. FRANK MOSLEY
For those of you who will be joining us at the FDCC’s 2021 Annual Meeting at The Greenbrier Resort in White or Springs, WV,August1–7,youareinforatreat from the moment you arrive.
As you drive up the iconic long entryway and into the arrival portico, you will most likely be greeted by the Resort’s official ambassador, Mr. Frank Mosley. At 88 years young, Mr. Mosley has been working at the resort since May 13,
1958 and is the most senior employee
at the resort in both age and tenure.
A native of Thurmond, WV in Fayette County, Mr. Mosley is one of 9 children who followed in his father’s footsteps
by starting work with the CSX railroad before being drafted into the U. S. Army when the Korean War broke out. He went back to work at the railroad in 1954 after returning after his years of service but was then laid off due to lack of seniority.
Borrowing his brother’s car he drove the 60 miles to The Greenbrier, a place he had never heard of before, in search of employment. Even though the Resort said there were no openings at the
time, he was persistent and eventually was hired as a “Houseman,” the official name for a “janitor,” filling in for the one who was out for a hernia operation. He was told that once the other gentlemen returned, his services would no longer be required, but then once that happened, no one told him to leave...so he stayed.
You would not be faulted for being overly impressed by the beautiful lawns, columned buildings and the historic
nature of the grounds as you drive-in. However, from a personal perspective,
it does not get any better than Frank Mosley. He has opened the stately doors to the resort for innumerable famous people throughout the years. As he describes them, he has seen “big shots, small shots, used to be’s, wannabes, and everythinginbetween.”
Mr. Mosley and his wife Geraldine
have been married since 1965 and
he is the proud father of four, with
nine grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. In fact, his son Anthony has worked alongside him for the past 41 years.
So, as you enter the resort, keep a lookout for The Greenbrier’s Ambassador and most famous greeter. He will be the one standing at the entry door with a smile
in the long red jacket with a Sam Sneed original hat perched atop his head. We couldn’t think of a better way to honor him than to have him grace the cover of this issue of the FDCC Flyer; and, frankly, there is no better person than Mr. Mosley to greet you to formally commence the Federation’s 2021 Annual Meeting.
Welcome Back.
