by addressing “why” it is that we do what we do. The cornerstone of the FDCC’s strategic plan is simply stated: “to be the inspired community of vetted defense counsel, exceptional leaders and even better people.”
We have seen a continuous evolution through the past 85 years of the FDCC’s history. There have always been challenges during every decade. Perhaps none as prolonged and challenging as the past 16 months have been. But we’ve always risen to them. During this past set of challenges, it seems like we went from the hurdles to pole vaulting. But the bar remains in place; in fact, we may have even raised it a bit. As always, we will accelerate our forward momentum and anticipatory leadership and, with a renewed sense of resilience, work to overcome the obstacles and have fun in the process.
We sincerely appreciate your continued membership, confidence and support, and look forward
to seeing you again “in person” either at the Annual Meeting at The Greenbrier Resort in August, the Corporate Counsel Symposium in October, the Insurance Industry Institute in November, the Winter 2022 meeting next March, the 2022 Annual Meeting in Seattle next
of July or perhaps even virtually,
in our ongoing effort to bring all
of the Federation’s assets and resources together to provide
our membership and industry
with unfettered access to relevant knowledge and trusted fellowship, and to the most valued and inspired people within the legal community.

                During the course of this revolutionary evolution we all experienced over the course of the past year and a half, we refocused on some of the basic fundamentals. First, no organization can succeed or achieve sustainability without getting to know and understand their members personally, as well as their wants and needs, and a little background on them and their families too. Second, while it would be easy to just put a webinar online, doing so without relating it to the strategic plan of the organization
or ensuring the qualitative aspect
of its content and presenter mirror the exceptionalism of the rest of
the membership, would simply be fatal to our cause. And third, the sustainability of any organization cannot be assured if the intellectual capital and financial strength are not advanced on a daily basis.
The FDCC has come through this recent period of uncertainty with a
renewed strength of purpose, a solid and strengthened financial position, and a game plan that will continue to chart our progress and that of our members as the legal profession continues to evolve. These are the reasons why defense and corporate counsel and industry professionals want to become members of this organization;
and these are the reasons why
they want to become part of its leadership. The Federation would not have been faulted for taking
the time over the past sixteen months and sitting back to see what happens in the industry and then looking for ways to react to those developments. But through the leadership of the Officers, Executive Committee, Board of Directors,
and all of us here at Headquarters a collaborative process evolved to focus not on what we do or how we do it but rather, as the famous Simon Sinek Ted Talk inspires
us to do, continuing to perform
