sustainable growth and success for Basketball WA. Thank you to the basketball community for warmly welcoming Nathan as he leads the strategic direction and vision of Basketball WA.
In late December 2023, Evan Stewart resigned from his role as Deputy CEO after five years
of committed service to the sport. Evan’s impact on the basketball landscape has been instrumental in spearheading discussions
and strategic initiatives for the expansion of crucial facilities standing out as a testament to his commitment. Over the past five years, Evan played a pivotal part in fostering
robust relationships with sponsors, state and local government, councils and community organisations, thereby ensuring the continued growth of basketball within the state. Notably, Evan assumed the role of acting CEO for a seven-month period in 2023, demonstrating his leadership during a critical juncture.
In recognition of Evan’s professionalism, diligence, and unwavering dedication, Basketball WA extends our heartfelt gratitude. The organisation sincerely wishes Evan success in all his future endeavours.
The Board would like to sincerely thank
the Basketball WA staffing team including Chief Operating Officer - Jonelle Morley and Company Secretary – Stuart Usher for their commitment, ongoing dedication and passion to the sport ensuring basketball is thriving in Western Australia.
The Board of Basketball WA would like to acknowledge the contribution of Cheryl Kickett-Tucker who served as a director for just under a year. Although Cheryl only served for a short period of time, her extensive knowledge and experience in community development programs, in particular with Aboriginal communities had a profound impact on the Board.
Basketball WA farewelled Phil Nixon who decided to stand aside after over 20 years
of leadership provided to both Willetton Basketball Association and Basketball
WA. The Board would like to acknowledge the continued contribution of Phil Nixon, in particular for his past 2 years as a director. Phil’s legacy to the sport goes well beyond the
Willetton Basketball Stadium and we look forward to continuing to see him around our great game.
With Phil’s departure, the Board welcomed Travis Moore after nominations were called from our Affiliated Associations. Travis Moore has had a life-long affiliation with basketball having represented Western Australia, played collegiate level in USA and played over 450 games of NBL1. In 2023
he was one of the inaugural inductees as
a Playing Life Member of the SBL. He has since continued his connection with the game coaching at NBL1 and WABL levels and has served on the SBL/ NBL1 West commission for 5 years. Travis provides a broad understanding of how those associations work and their strengths and challenges.
I would personally like to thank my fellow Board colleagues, Deputy Chair - Sandra Riches, Cassandra Wright, Lorraine Driscoll, Michael Quirk and Travis Moore as well as Finance, Risk and Audit Committee members Geoff Searle and Trudi Chesterton and NBL1 Commissioners Karl Hombergen, Andy Stewart, Travis Moore, Lauren Gandini and Melissa Sinfield for supporting me as Chair and providing passion, commitment and leadership to Basketball in Western Australia.
The Basketball WA Board remains
laser focused on delivering our four key strategic pillars - Facilities (place to play), Organisations (facilitating play), The Game (playing) and Community (growing the impact). These pillars influence our strategic thinking, decision making and allocation of resources.
On behalf of the Board our heartfelt appreciation goes to everyone in the Basketball Community who volunteer or work in our clubs and associations to improve
the lives of Western Australians through Basketball.
Boordawan.
