OFFICIALS EDUCATION
AND DEVELOPMENT
EDUCATION
In line with restrictions and to provide innovation with providing education to officials, Basketball WA was able to deliver course material via online video presentation which was successful on many occasions. In particular several beginner courses which was supported by our affiliated associations.
In addition, Basketball WA conducted traditional structure and framework to allow associations in metropolitan and regional areas to conduct referee courses. Delivery of two Level 01 Advanced Course’s and delivery of Level 01 Referee Course in Broome.
Basketball WA was able to deliver the annual scoretable courses prior to junior and senior elite competition along with a statistician course in preparation for the senior elite competition.
APPOINTMENTS
Southern Cross Challenge
With the Annual SCC cancelled in Victoria, BWA ran its own Southern Cross Challenge for WA Teams and BWA was able to support that by inviting the WABL and Emerging WABL Referee Development Program kids to come down and learn in a friendly environment with support from its Mentor’s and NBL1 West Referee Coaches.
Australian Junior Championship
Basketball WA was able to send away Jacqueline Stevens to U20’s and Jack Hills and Chelsea Mangelsdorf to Ivor Burge in
Mackay. Chelsea was selected to Crew Chief on the IB Men Gold Medal game and Jack received an umpire spot on the IB Men Bronze Medal game.
We were also able to send away 4 referees to U18 Championships in Werribee and also a commissioner in Blaine Krapljanov.
International
In 2021 Craig Copes was promoted to a FIBA Black License. This allows Craig to be selected to umpire any Senior Men or Women tournament including the world championships and the Olympics
HIGH PERFORMANCE
Referee Development Programs
The expansion of the Regional Referee Development Programs for all the regions of WA, including the Kimberley, Pilbara, and Mid-West.
We Also expanded our Metro based referee development programs by expanding the WABL RDP and creating the Emerging WABL RDP
